Data analytics is one skill that is fast becoming in demand now a days. The reason for this is that many businesses have been able to amass large amounts of data, yet they are unsure of how exactly to use this information to their advantage.
Being adept at data analytics means that you can use this data and present them in a way that can provide you with relevant information such as trends and correlations that will be able to serve as basis in making sound management decisions.
If you intend to teach data analytics online, know that there are a lot of advantages to using this type of medium. However, the proper teaching methods and tools are necessary to be able to teach a data analytics class effectively.
Here are some of the things that you need to know if you want to teach data analytics online.
Have the Right Environment
Regardless of whether you intend to use live video streaming or simply uploaded videos of your lectures, you should have the right teaching environment to allow students to focus more on your lessons rather than your surroundings. As such, remove all clutter or objects that may take attention away from the class.
A table can be included in your virtual classroom, although this is only recommended if you have something important placed on it such as a computer, a few books, or any material that you would be using when presenting to the class. However, a blackboard or whiteboard is absolutely essential.
A display medium such as a whiteboard will allow you to draw up charts, write down important terms or formulas, and provide meaningful diagrams so that your students would understand lessons more. Make sure that it is in clear view for students to see, or can be zoomed at fully.
Have the Right Teaching Materials
Data analytics can be a complicated lesson to teach. As such, different teaching materials and methodologies may be needed for students to fully understand concepts and apply them in case of studies as well as in real life.
While teaching the lessons yourself is the simplest way and requires very little prep time, this may not be feasible especially if you are teaching a lot of classes throughout the day. As such, recorded lessons that can be uploaded is recommended. This also allows your students to learn at their own pace.
You can supplement these materials with other ways of teaching such as course materials in the form of Powerpoint slides or PDF documents. You may also send worksheets in the form of Excel files or other files that can be opened using whatever software that you are using for the course.
Of course, having the appropriate software is also very important. Different types of software can be used to do and teach data analytics and your students must gain access to one or more of these programs so that they can follow what you are teaching.

Of course, having the right learning platform is integral to provide the best learning experience for your students. Not only should it provide a fast and reliable means of communication through audio and video between you and your students, but it should also include functionalities that make teaching more effective.
One of the primary features that your virtual classroom software must have is the ability to share screens. Having required applications embedded in the program can be even better. This can allow you to view and correct your students’ work accordingly, and it also provides a better learning environment as you can check student progress on the fly.
Other features would include a file portal wherein recorded classes, course materials, and other files can be shared. It would also be possible for students to create their own folders and upload files so that you can check them. This would remove unnecessary steps such as email work and other assignments.
Lastly, your learning software must be easy to use both for you as well as your students. You must be comfortable teaching using the program, and there should be seamless integration when switching tasks such as teaching, communicating with students, or checking their work.
